What To Avoid For a Brighter Smile

July 30, 2018

When it comes to achieving a brighter, whiter smile we often hear about these miracles such as strawberries or even charcoal, however what if you could just avoid certain things and achieve the same results? Today, Sinclair Smiles in Encinitas, CA is going to discuss the things you should try to avoid if you’d like a bright, white smile. We hope you learn something new!

Tomato Sauce

Did you know that the acidity of tomato sauce can actually wear away enamel and penetrate your teeth? We recommend eating a salad prior to consuming tomato sauce as spinach, lettuce, and even broccoli can create a protective coating, reducing the risk of the sauce staining your pearly whites.

Berries

Although berries contain many vitamins, minerals, and nutrients which can be very healthy for our bodies, they are also notorious for causing the darkening and staining of teeth. We recommend drinking a decent amount of water following any berries to help rinse your smile and reduce the risk of staining.

Tea

We often hear about how bad coffee can be for our smiles, but what about tea? Tea actually contains “tannins” which are responsible for dulling and discoloration of teeth. Herbal teas however tend to contain fewer tannins than black, white, or even green tea, making them a better option for a whiter smile.

Wine

It may seem like only red wine would be a big concern when it comes to staining, however, this is sadly not the case. White wines can actually be just as harmful to the color of your teeth. We recommend using a straw if you must drink wine and always rinsing with water after each glass.
